History of The Cellar

Cellar Kickboxing was orginally opened in 2002 by Simona and Justin Whiley in the basement below Joe's Market & Deli, a small convenient store near the University of Minnesota.

Although small, the secluded gym helped to create a small community where individuals could escape from their hectic lifestyles through kickboxing training.  The gym fostered a family-stye atmosphere and many life-long friendships were built.

In 2006, under new ownership, Cellar Kickboxing re-located to New Brighton and began offering additional martial arts programs including youth karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts.

In 2009, the gym moved back to the U of M campus re-named as The Cellar - Fight & Fitness. The new location is one of the premier training facilities in the Midwest and is home to recreational and competitive students in a variety of disciplines including: Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts.

"True Champions start at the bottom and work their way up.  There's no better place to start, than The Cellar."
