MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA)

In the early 1990’s the UFC and the Gracie family burst onto the scene with “No Rules” fighting and immediately put into the question the effectiveness of many traditional martial art styles.  Although the original competitions were highly criticized as being barbaric and scrutinized by politicians, they did teach one very important lesson: the best martial art style was not having ONE, but instead a blend of several arts including striking, wrestling, and submissions.

Students interested in MMA training are encouraged to start by building a foundation in striking and grappling. This can be done by training in our Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Students who have become well-rounded on their feet and on the ground will then be invited to train in special MMA workouts that blend the skills together and help prepare students for competition. Many students in this program have a desire to compete while others just enjoy training in one of the most physically demanding sports in the World.
